ENGINEERING group Amec has secured a pair of deals worth US dollars 1.1 billion (GBP 600 million) to rebuild water and sewage systems in Iraq - the biggest reconstruction contract won by a UK company.

The deal was awarded by the US government to Amec and its American partner, Fluor - the second of three possible wins for the joint venture in Iraq this year. Amec's shares, which were priced 185p a year ago, climbed 7p to 303p.
