I DO believe the moving of its dates to the middle of June was the best thing to happen to the film festival in a long time, writes Mark Cousins.

The film festival always found itself a bit constrained by the other festivals happening in the city in August. When you are bringing international film stars to the city, you really want to have the undivided attention of your potential audience, have your pick of the best venues and put on a real show. The city of Edinburgh is your stage for the event, but that stage was just far too cluttered when the festival was staged in August.
