THE image of the typical salmon fisherman as an affluent, tweed- clad, middle-aged man needs to change to attract more women and younger people to the sport, rural and tourism experts said yesterday.

Fishing provides an iconic image of Scotland worldwide and is aiming to promote itself as affordable to people from all income groups, across the generations. Industry leaders said such changes could help increase its current GBP 133 million contribution to the Scottish tourism economy to GBP 550 million over five years.
