THE Kirk launched a scathing attack on the government's asylum policy yesterday, accusing it of being concerned more with courting public opinion than with human rights, and of "eroding" the Geneva Convention.

The General Assembly gave its backing to a report which condemned the government's approach as being "the worst of all worlds" and a "wasting policy". The report lambasts the government's asylum policy as containing "a raft of intimidating legislation" that becomes increasingly concerned with pandering to public opinion rather than human rights.
