SOARING demand for luxury handbags helped fashion house Burberry deliver a 13 per cent hike in interim earnings. The firm, famous for its distinctive black, camel and red check designs, said a growing market for accessories meant underlying operating profits rose to GBP 95.1 million.
Accessories such as bags and shoes now account for 31 per cent of group sales, according to Burberry. It said more than half of all European and US handbag sales were now luxury handbags - costing between GBP 800 and GBP 2,600 - compared to less than 5 per cent a year-and-a-half ago.See the full content of this document
