A NEW Forth road bridge costing up to GBP 4.2 billion will be Scotland's largest construction project for a generation, ministers said yesterday, as they finally approved the project, 15 years after a new crossing was first proposed.

The Scottish Government has chosen a cable-stayed crossing as a cheaper and quicker alternative to a tunnel. Ministers said the cost had risen by nearly GBP 1 billion and admitted several gaps remained over the details, such as who would control the construction project.
