DIY giant B&Q has reported a pick-up in sales of "big-ticket" kitchen and bathroom products but warned market conditions will remain tough until at least 2010.
Although like-for-like sales fell 5.9 per cent in the 13 weeks to 31 January, that was an improvement on the previous quarter as heavy discounting helped draw in customers. Ian Cheshire, chief executive of parent group Kingfisher, Europe's biggest home improvements retailer, said he was encouraged by stronger-than-expected demand for major items such as kitchens, although he was unsure whether that would continue.See the full content of this document
