TONY Blair admitted yesterday that the continuing revelations of abuse and torture of Iraqi detainees by British and United States troops had been "immensely damaging", but he paid tribute to the "vast majority" of British troops for the "superb job" they were doing in Iraq.

Mr Blair also admitted that his political future now rests on the outcome of events in Iraq, defiantly telling MPs he would always defend his decision to commit Britain to the conflict to remove Saddam Hussein from power.
