FOR reasons that now escape me, I once bought a book by David Blunkett. No, not the diaries that have had so much space when serialised recently in a newspaper that should know better, have featured on television and - goodness me, fancy that, who'd have thought it? - as Radio 4's Book of the Week.

This was more a book outlining how a Sheffield lad overcame his blindness and planned world domination. He didn't put it in precisely those terms or I wouldn't have bought it, even as part of the three-for-two it must have been.
