THE best love poetry - and here I'm thinking of something like Carol Ann Duffy's Warming Her Pearls - distils the heat of passion in condensed, burning words. The servant in that poem, you may remember, is told by her not-so-coy mistress to warm her pearls by wearing them next to her own skin before she goes to a dance.
