Break-Up Threat Forces Bt to Cut Broadband Prices

Summary


BT MOVED yesterday to pre-empt a possible break-up of its business by offering to cut wholesale broadband prices by 8 per cent, provide faster broadband services, open up its network to rivals and invest GBP 10 billion in the next five years to create a "21st-century network".

The wide-ranging moves came in response to the telecom regulator Ofcom's warning last year that the firm must offer competitors "real equality of access to its phone lines" or face being broken up. Ofcom will consider BT's proposals before responding over the next few months.
