With our national dress in the limelight this year, Scotland's National Archives is looking for our brightest new designers to create something special for Homecoming 2009

ARE you the next Christopher Kane, Vivienne Westwood or Alexander McQueen, just waiting to be discovered? Today, as part of Homecoming 2009, the National Archives of Scotland's Scottish Register of Tartans, in association with The Scotsman, launches a fantastic design competition which may kick-start the career of a future fashion star. Open to all fashion and textile design students currently studying in Scotland, this unique project challenges the nation's brightest emerging talent to create a stylish garment, outfit or accessory using tartan from the official register. So, whether it's a pencil skirt or a man's travel bag, killer heels or Highland Dress that's already taking shape in your imagination, log on to www.tartanregister.gov.uk and let Scotland's tartans inspire you.
