THE Prince of Wales made a secret pact with the Duke of Edinburgh, allowing him to leave Princess Diana after five years and return to Camilla Parker Bowles if his marriage did not work out, according to the former Royal butler Paul Burrell.

He says the deal made Diana feel she had been offered to the Royal Family on a "sale-or-return" basis, and she confronted Prince Philip about the deal in a letter. In a reply to Diana, he is reported to have written: "I cannot imagine anyone in their right mind leaving you for Camilla."
