THEY have entered the dictionary as "Chelsea tractors", "mum trucks" and "Yank tanks" - all derogatory terms for the inappropriate use of over-sized 4x4s on city streets. Since we all turned fashionably green, owners of such so-called gas-guzzlers regularly run the gauntlet of abuse, yet many of those who consider themselves environmentally minded baulk at the prospect of downsizing to a greener car.

However much they attempt to impress dinner party guests with their organic-only shopping, recycling and composting habits, 4x4 owners seem to draw the line at changing their most ungreen habit - their choice of car.
