THE Arctic Monkeys, who shot to fame on the internet before releasing Britain's fastest-selling debut album, last night won the Mercury Music Prize.

The Sheffield-based band beat 11 other nominees, including the Radiohead singer Thom Yorke, and Muse, to scoop the music industry's equivalent of the literary world's Booker prize.
