THE CBI gave employers with final salary pension schemes a pat on the back yesterday, as it announced they had reduced the collective deficit in their pension funds by some GBP 60 billion by the end of last year.

On the basis of its new figures, the employers' organisation has slashed its estimate for employers' additional contributions over the next three years to GBP 6bn, down from GBP 12bn last spring.
