BRITAIN's huge fiscal deficit should be tackled with GBP 4 in spending cuts for every GBP 1 in tax rises to avoid derailing economic recovery, a leading business group urged yesterday.

In a letter to Chancellor George Osborne ahead of the emergency coalition government Budget on 22 June, the CBI said such a split would give confidence that tax rises would not stifle recovery.
