EDDIE Friel, the man credited as the "father of tourism in Glasgow", has resigned as chief executive of the city's tourist board.

Politicians and business leaders yesterday paid tribute to Mr Friel, 62, who in 1983 established the first body set up to promote the city as a tourist and business destination.
