AS ANOTHER Olympic Games extravaganza/ farrago hoves in view, it becomes increasingly difficult to remember the way I used to feel about them when we honestly - and there's a Freudian slip of a word to use - thought that every contest was fair, clean and, by Gad sir, sporting.
As a schoolboy shot-putter of no ability whatever and a discus thrower of less, I was fascinated by the power and skill of the top athletes, male, female and indeterminate, although even then the bulk and strength of women such as Tamara Press should have rung warning bells.See the full content of this document
