WHEN the compilers of the Oxford English Dictionary next get together they may wish to look at their definition of the word "ungrateful" and simply put after it "Liberal Democrat party membership." Rarely has triumph and success been met in such a surly and reluctant way as the Liberal Democrat delegates have welcomed their party's return to UK government after 65 years.

Party leader Nick Clegg and his right-hand man Danny Alexander, who led the negotiations with the Tories, should have been welcomed as conquering heroes for giving the party a chance to really make a mark on the British way of life.
