Dundee Stunned by 'Obscene Punishment'

Dundee started the season as favourites to win the First Division title. They now begin Nov-ember as all but certainties to be relegated to the third tier of Scottish football, for the first time in the club's 117-year history.

Fifty-nine years ago last weekend, more than 35,000 Dundee fans watched their team win the League Cup with a 3-2 victory over Rangers at Hampden Park. There was not a single club representative present yesterday at the same stadium to hear David Longmuir, the Tayside-based Scottish Football League chief executive, hand down a 25-point penalty to the club, following a second lurch into administration in seven years. Dundee intend to appeal, but to date no Scottish club has managed to overturn a punishment imposed after entering administration.
