THE Conservative and Liberal Democrat party leaders yesterday spent the dying hours of the 2005 general election campaign frantically blitzing marginal seats in a last effort to squeeze out vital votes and hurt Labour.

For the Conservatives, Michael Howard dashed from London to Surrey, Norfolk and Yorkshire, before returning to his Folkestone constituency in Kent.
