TOM Smith has played his last game for Scotland and other senior players are poised to follow the British and Irish Lions prop out the international door.

Smith was unavailable for comment, but The Scotsman understands that although the 33-year-old has been considering stepping down for some time, recent unhappiness within the squad rubber-stamped his plan to retire after Saturday's Calcutta Cup match, his 61st Scotland Test. It is believed Smith's dream remains to tour with the Lions for a third successful trip, and, having just signed a new two- year deal, he is expected to continue to play for Northampton.
