RETAINED firefighters went on more than 90 call-outs a day last year, according to figures published ahead of a conference that will examine their role.
In Scotland, more than 3,300 men and women, or more than 40 per cent of the fire service workforce, are employed on the retained duty system, "on-call" from their homes or primary employers, with a further 700 responding as volunteers.See the full content of this document
