MALCOLM MacKinnon, former chief executive of Drambuie, was paid over GBP 1.2 million a year to run the company despite his last year in charge yielding profits of just GBP 270,000.

The drink company's accounts show that the highest-paid director in the 12 months to end June 2004 took home pay of GBP 1.22m. That is believed to be MacKinnon - a 27 per cent shareholder and a member of the family that owns the group.
