THE LAST time Scotland started the championship with a victory over France at Murrayfield, one of the best teams in Scotland's history crashed when they next ran out, away to Wales.

That the side went on to post a record win over England, 33-6, at Murrayfield and beat Ireland only rubbed salt into the Cardiff wounds as the 22-15 loss suffered in the old Arms Park in 1986 cost Colin Deans' side a second Grand Slam in three championships. John Rutherford was the stand-off on that occasion and, 20 years on, he recalls that encounter as if it were yesterday.
