There's plenty to celebrate on television this year - even if it's almost entirely on the BBC

IT'S AN OLD JOKE THAT TELLY characters never actually watch telly and thus don't spend Christmas the way most of us do. And just as traditional as bad jokes in a cracker is the cry that Christmas telly is rubbish these days - not like when Morecambe & Wise were around. Yet look what happens without it, as in this year's Gavin And Stacey Christmas Special (Christmas Eve, BBC1, 10pm), in which not watching TV leads to the horrors of a family singsong, board games and an angry punch-up to rival EastEnders (though as this is a gooey sort of programme, it all ends rather better).
