BELGIAN playwright Jan Lauwers grew up surrounded by the past. His father was a doctor by trade but also an enthusiastic amateur archaeologist in his spare time, and their home was packed to the rafters with artefacts from all over the world. As a child, Lauwers later recalled, he thought nothing of going to sleep with a sarcophagus next to his bed.
