Summary
THE LUSITANIA, THE QUEEN Elizabeth, HMS Hood ... some of the most famous ships in maritime history were built in Glasgow during its heyday as the second city of Empire, and this proud shipbuilding heritage will be celebrated at the Glasgow River Festival today and tomorrow.
Of course, none of the vessels mentioned above will be on display . the Lusitania was torpedoed by a German U-Boat, the Queen Elizabeth destroyed by fire and the HMS Hood sunk by the Bismarck. But you will still be able to step onboard an impressive fleet of visiting ships, including the beautiful schooner, Loth Lorien, two Royal Navy Hunt class minesweepers and the Jacinta, a Fleetwood trawler which now serves as a floating deep sea fishing museum. Entry onto The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour will be free for the duration of the festival and, of course, no celebration of Glasgow's maritime spirit would be complete without an appearance from The Puffer from Inveraray,See the full content of this document
