Summary
SCOTTISH AUDIENCES LOVE their Alan Bennett, perhaps because his work . and his whole wry and melancholy presence - comes as a welcome reminder that there is another England, beyond the south- east. This latest Bennett touring production features Patricia Routledge, in roles created for her by Bennett in 1978.
Written for TV, Office Suite features two short plays about office life in the age before the internet. In A Visit From Miss Protheroe, Routledge (pictured) is joined by Edward Petherbridge as Mr Dodsworth, a retired office manager whose peaceful routine is disturbed by a visit from a former colleague; in Green Forms, two underemployed office-workers, Doreen and Doris, find their routine disrupted by a newcomer, and a sinister green form. In both plays, Bennett pursues his calling as the ultimate poet of ordinary, trusting English folk swept aside by the onrush of economic development and social change.See the full content of this document
