Summary
THE Edinburgh Festival is closing in. You can tell by reading the signs. There is a steady build-up of creatures from haunts of coot and tern and the pavements hiss with the swish of sandalled feet. You can hardly look round without getting a haversack in your ear. Worst of all, there are the knees.
The outbreak of knees in the city was reaching epidemic proportions before, but now it is spiralling out of control. People know no shame. There are knees to be flaunted and knees to be locked up, consigned to perpetual darkness. Unfortunately, most knees belong in the latter category, but no-one appears to care.
