Deployed in his preferred role of holding midfielder against the team he grew up supporting, Tom Hateley may not possess his father's goal threat, but he did volunteer to take the late penalty before Jim O'Brien assumed the responsibility and had one other chance with five minutes to go. His failure to put it away still niggled at the birthday boy after the match.
