Summary
Music on demand in every room in the house was the aim. So I bought yards and yards of speaker cable, wired it up to the audio out connection at the back of the immense stacking system in the living room, and when I wanted music in the bedroom I carried the speakers there. Same with the kitchen, even the bathroom. With doors open, I could even skip tracks and adjust volume with the remote control.
It worked, but it wasn't exactly efficient. The advent of the iPod changed all that. Now every room has a speaker dock, instead of lumping around speakers, I simply plug the iPod in wherever I happen to be. But even that's wearing thin.
