HEARTS face what is effectively their second knock-out game of the week today when they take on Hibernian in the final Edinburgh derby of the season. Last season's runners-up stayed in the hunt for a European place last Sunday when they drew with Aberdeen in a match which would have ended their chances had they lost. Now, still four points behind Jimmy Calderwood's side, they know their hopes of a UEFA Cup spot will be finally dashed if they lose to their local rivals in the lunchtime kick-off.

Indeed, in a sense there will be two potential knockout games for Hearts today, as even if they beat Hibs, they will then have to wait and hope Aberdeen fail to pick up the three points at Celtic Park. For assistant coach Stephen Frail, though, there is no point in dwelling on what may happen later in the day across the country. He expects playing in the derby to be motivation enough for his players - and only afterwards will they begin to think about how the later match could impact on them.
