NOTHING DEFINES "FASHION quandary" quite like the choice of a wedding outfit. For the bride, the options are pretty limited. For female guests there is much to be considered, from judging the likely temperature variation from church to hotel to taxi queue, to assessing the optimum heel height suitable for both a calf-skimming hem and an eightsome reel. A wedding will always bring out the best and worst examples of fashion taste, so keep it simple.

A dress really is the best option. More simple to wear than a skirt and top, all you have to do with a dress is wrap it, button it or zip it. A timeless style is less of a stress to purchase, and a better investment than a two-piece. A dress is especially flattering when it's hip-skimming and cut to the knee, such as this flesh- coloured silk 1920s-inspired design by Anna Molinari.
