ITI Techmedia, one of Scottish Enterprise's investment companies, yesterday launched a GBP 7.9 million research and development programme to improve care for hospital patients.

The three-and-a-half-year programme aims to make a machine that will automatically diagnose infections and improve the treatment of chronic wounds. Initially, the project will focus on diabetes- related chronic wounds - such as foot ulcers - but the technology will be designed to be applicable to other wounds.
