IF THE air of despondency that hung around Parkhead yesterday appeared incongruous at a club who could win a third Premierleague title in four seasons this weekend, and whose fans were queuing outside for tickets for a UEFA Cup quarter-final, the sight of John Kennedy hobbling across the foyer on crutches provided painful explanation for the gloom.

The 20-year-old defender will travel to the United States today and will undergo reconstructive surgery on his left knee, shattered by the appalling tackle perpetrated by Romanian striker Ioan Ganea as Kennedy made his ill-fated Scotland debut at Hampden on Wednesday night.
