Today's report from the research group Centre for Cities will be keenly read for the clues it might offer on how our main urban centres are coping with the legacy of recession and challenge of recovery.
Scotland, of course, has good reason to be mindful that its policy aims should be by no means exclusively focused on its cities, but must have regard to the greater Scotland that lies outwith - the Highlands and islands, the Borders and the hundreds of communities that make up the rural economy.
