IF SCOTLAND were as good at listening as we tend to be at pointing the finger it is unlikely that the disappointment of failing to qualify for a major finals would have become as monotonous as is now the case.

The SFA is an easy target, and George Peat has done the association no favours with his ill-timed ramblings, but having listened to warnings of this scenario for the past 20 years and more, this is one time when the SFA should not be shouldering the blame. The so-called 'Largs mafia' has made for easy headlines denouncing the lack of skills in Scottish footballers, as if the Inverclyde coaching base is some navel-gazing hotbed of football naivety.
