THE Lions' first opponents are supposed to be a team drawn from across the five provinces of the high veldt area in South Africa, but, in fact, the squad is almost entirely made up of players from the Griquas and Leopards.
The Griquas from Kimberley won this year's Vodacom Cup competition, beating the Blue Bulls in the final, and they provide 11 of the starting line-up, while the Leopards of Potchefstroom, who lost to the Bulls in the semi-finals, have four forwards included as the coaches opt for known combinations over current form.
