TOBACCO manufacturers adopted a "deliberate strategy to fool consumers" that low-tar products were healthier than ordinary cigarettes, according to a report published in the Lancet medical journal today.
Internal documents kept by British American Tobacco (BAT) and Imperial Tobacco Ltd (ITL) were studied by a Canadian professor, who found tobacco companies were aware that smokers tended to take puffs that were twice as large as the machines used to determine the level of tar and nicotine in cigarettes.See the full content of this document
