HOPES of a resolution over the rights of Gurkhas to live in the UK were raised yesterday after Gordon Brown held a meeting with Joanna Lumley, who has spearheaded the servicemen's fight.

The Prime Minister bowed to pressure to see the actress, after Lumley said he had snubbed three requests for a meeting. Lumley later told journalists that the half-hour meeting was "extremely positive".
