WAITROSE'S share of the food market has overtaken that of Marks & Spencer for the first time in the supermarket's 105-year history, its managing director yesterday claimed.

Mark Price said internal Waitrose figures - based on data from TNS Worldpanel and Nielsen - put its market share by sales at 4.2 per cent, compared with M&S's 3.7 per cent.
