KENNY MacAskill, the justice minister, yesterday admitted new measures may be needed to protect the public against dangerous sex offenders.

He told The Scotsman he was prepared to "learn the lessons" following last week's court case involving Sean McKay, who held a woman at knifepoint and repeatedly raped her while police besieged his flat.
