PERHAPS the least surprising news in Scottish football was released yesterday, when it was announced that Aiden McGeady had been elected the Premier League player of the month for February.

On arrival here in Barcelona, the Celtic midfielder was clearly pleased by the recognition, but he began his "acceptance speech" with a spirited defence of his team-mate, Artur Boruc, in the wake of the Polish goalkeeper's caution by referee Iain Brines at the end of the 2-0 victory over Hibernian on Saturday. Boruc was shown a yellow card for gesturing towards the home fans, who had taunted him for most of the match.
