I DON'T know much about shopping, but I know what I like. And I liked finding "the mutant lovechild of Benny Hill and Alice Cooper" in the window of John Lewis. That was a surprise. Decent citizens do not go to John Lewis expecting to be titillated erotically, but more on that anon.
The interface between shopping and art attracts little critical attention. Rightly so. The events rely on passing trade. Art is hopping a ride on commerce, rather than vice versa, as is more usual. But I was intrigued to find art attached to John Lewis, a shop that embodies civilisation, and to Ocean Terminal, a mall where a man might happily live.See the full content of this document
