THE recent milk price increases announced by supermarkets and processors are very welcome, but price is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the issues over which the dairy industry is battling for its life.

Speaking in London at a debate on milk prices, hosted by the Women's Institute, David Curry MP, the chairman of the industry- wide Dairy UK, said that environmental concerns resulting from climate change, increasing pressure on food manufacturers from a government increasingly concerned with obesity and a rapidly changing market place were combining to put pressure on the industry.
