PLANS to spend GBP 644 million on building at least 6,500 affordable homes were announced by the Scottish Government yesterday.

The investment over the next 12 months in homes for rent or low- cost ownership is expected to have an impact on council waiting lists and give a welcome boost to the country's beleaguered construction industry.
