THE number of equity release plans taken out by Scottish homeowners jumped by almost a quarter in the first half of 2010 as more retirees unlocked cash from their homes to ease their financial difficulties. Scottish housing wealth totalling GBP 17.5 million was withdrawn in the six months to June, an 81 per cent increase on the same period last year, according to Key Retirement Solutions.
Scottish equity release customers unlocked an average of GBP 34,603 from their property. A third of equity release customers said they would use the money to reduce their debts, while paying regular bills and helping friends or family were also popular motives.See the full content of this document
