HIBERNIAN manager Tony Mowbray yesterday dismissed suggestions his team could deliberately lose to Rangers next week in order to increase their own chances of clinching a UEFA Cup berth.

Hibs will only qualify for Europe if they finish fourth, and second-placed Hearts win the Scottish Cup final and are overtaken by Rangers in the SPL. Mowbray's side could make sure of fourth place on Saturday if they beat Aberdeen and Rangers win against Kilmarnock, which would mean that by the time they play Alex McLeish's side next Tuesday they will have nothing positive to play for in terms of league position.
